Shreveport, LA – Dangerous driving conditions are expected across Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas tonight as freezing temperatures return. Roads, bridges, and overpasses already impacted by lingering snowpack could refreeze, creating widespread black ice hazards.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, the greatest risk exists in McCurtain County (OK), Sevier and Howard Counties (AR), and Red River County (TX). Any remaining water or slush will likely refreeze as temperatures drop below freezing overnight into Tuesday morning. Drivers are urged to use extreme caution, especially on secondary roads.

Black ice, nearly invisible, is most prevalent in shaded areas, along curbs, and on bridges and overpasses. Commuters should allow extra travel time Tuesday morning and avoid sudden braking or sharp turns to reduce the risk of skidding.

Looking ahead, Shreveport can expect sunny skies on Tuesday, with a high near 53°F. Clear and calm conditions will continue into Tuesday night with a low around 34°F. Wednesday will bring partly sunny skies and highs in the mid-50s, with dry weather persisting through Thursday. A slight chance of showers returns late Thursday night into Friday.

Drivers across the region are advised to monitor updated forecasts and take precautions as conditions develop. Stay informed through weather.gov for the latest road conditions and safety alerts.
