New Orleans, LA – Showers and thunderstorms are expected across the New Orleans area tonight, with snow showers becoming possible early next week. Residents should prepare for cooler temperatures this weekend and icy conditions starting Monday night.

According to the National Weather Service, rain will begin late Friday night, with a 60% chance of showers before midnight and lingering into Saturday morning. Expect highs near 63 degrees Friday, dropping to the upper 50s overnight. Saturday’s high will climb to 70 degrees, but colder air arrives Saturday night, with lows dipping to 41.

The Martin Luther King Day holiday will bring sunshine but cooler temperatures, with highs near 40 degrees. By Monday night, a slight chance of snow showers develops as lows fall to 29 degrees. Snow is most likely Tuesday, with the high reaching only 37 degrees. Northeast winds could bring gusts up to 30 mph, increasing the potential for icy roads, especially on elevated highways and bridges.

Travelers should stay updated on weather conditions, particularly for Tuesday’s commute. Drive cautiously if snow accumulates, and avoid unnecessary travel if roads are icy. For the most accurate updates, check the National Weather Service or local emergency alerts.

Temperatures are expected to moderate by midweek, but freezing conditions will persist. Residents should take steps to protect pipes, plants, and pets from the cold.
