Louisiana: Wrong-Way Driver Killed in St. Landry Parish Crash

Port Barre, LA – A wrong-way crash involving three vehicles on U.S. Highway 190 early Monday claimed the life of a local driver.

Louisiana State Police reported that Brandon Taylor, 32, of Port Barre, was driving a 2024 Toyota Camry east in the westbound lanes of the highway near Lakeshore Drive shortly before 2 a.m. when he collided head-on with a Chevrolet Silverado. A Freightliner truck then struck the Toyota.

According to Louisiana State Police, Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene. The Chevrolet’s driver sustained moderate injuries and was taken to a local hospital. The Freightliner’s driver was uninjured. All drivers involved were wearing seat belts.

Toxicology samples were collected from Taylor and the Chevrolet’s driver for analysis. The Freightliner’s driver provided a voluntary breath sample, which showed no alcohol present.

The incident remains under investigation as authorities work to determine why Taylor was driving in the wrong direction.

State police remind drivers to follow traffic rules, remain vigilant, and avoid driving against the flow of traffic to help prevent tragedies on the road.
