Bakersfield, Calif. — According to officials, a man was apprehended by law enforcement after allegedly leading them on a pursuit on Sunday afternoon in Bakersfield.
The incident began in McFarland when the police initiated a chase of a reported stolen semi-truck around 3 p.m., as stated by California Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Tomas Martinez.
The pursuit continued until CHP officers took over in Bakersfield at 7th Standard. The truck driver, while heading southbound on Highway 99, exited onto Rosedale and deliberately collided with an SUV at a nearby intersection.
Fortunately, the SUV driver did not sustain any injuries from the collision, as confirmed by Martinez.
The pursuit ultimately concluded on the eastbound lanes of Rosedale Highway, just west of Mohawk Street. Initially, the driver refused to exit the truck.
As a result, the section of Rosedale Highway between Fruitvale Avenue and Mohawk Street was temporarily blocked during the incident.
Eventually, officers managed to remove the driver from the truck.
The driver, identified as Jonathan Harry Junior Stone, 25, was taken into custody by the CHP. Stone faces charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, felony evading, and assault with a deadly weapon in connection to the SUV collision, according to Martinez.
Subsequently, normal traffic flow has been restored on Rosedale Highway.
