Man gets 25 years to life for Santa Monica murder, but his motive remains unknown

A Michigan man convicted of a 2022 murder in Santa Monica was sentenced to 25 years to life in state prison.

Mohamed Abou-Arabi, 25, was convicted in September of first-degree murder with an enhancement for using a knife during the attack, and on Jan. 13, he was sentenced to 25 years to life in state prison, plus an additional year for the knife enhancement, the Santa Monica Police Department said in a news release.

On Nov. 2, 2022, Abou-Arabi stabbed a man who also hailed from Dearborn, Michigan, in a parking lot just north of the Santa Monica Pier.

Despite their shared city of residence, officials said after the trial that they still don’t know exactly why Abou-Arabi killed the other man.

“Abou-Arabi refused to provide a motive during the investigation and trial,” officials said.
