Man released on bail after allegedly beating, threatening pregnant woman with knife
(KTLA) — A 33-year-old man is out on bail after allegedly beating a woman pregnant with his child and threatening her with a knife over the weekend in the Bloomington area of San Bernardino County.
Deputies responded to a 911 call shortly before 10 a.m. Sunday regarding a female being assaulted in the 17700 block of Randall Avenue, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department stated.
Upon arrival, deputies learned that the victim was pregnant and identified the suspect as 33-year-old Jose Vargas Zambrano.
“During an argument, Zambrano repeatedly struck her, forced her back into a bedroom, held her down, and choked her,” the Sheriff’s Department stated.
Investigators said Zambrano also armed himself with a knife and threatened the victim to keep her from leaving the home, but the unidentified victim eventually escaped and ran for help.
“She was evaluated by medical personnel at the scene for injuries suffered during the assault,” the Sheriff’s Department stated.
Deputies forcibly entered the home when they learned Zambrano was no longer armed with the knife and arrested him.
He was booked on suspicion of domestic violence with injuries, false imprisonment, assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury, and brandishing a weapon.
Zambrano was held on $50,000 bail which he later posted and was released from custody, the Sheriff’s Department stated.
