Man Shot and Killed in Car on Busy Street in South Los Angeles

On Wednesday, a man sitting inside his car on a busy street in South Los Angeles was shot and killed, causing a brief lockdown at a nearby elementary school.

The incident occurred around 11 a.m. near 87th Street on Figueroa Street. According to the police, the victim was in the driver’s seat when an assailant approached him on foot.

After a verbal exchange, the gunman shot and fatally wounded the driver before fleeing on foot. A female passenger in the car suffered minor injuries, although she was not directly hit by the gunfire.

As a precaution, Chester Elementary School was placed on lockdown temporarily following the shooting. Police conducted an investigation, resulting in a section of Figueroa Street being closed off for several hours.

The suspect, described as a 20-year-old man with black hair and brown eyes, approximately 5 foot 6 and 130 pounds, wearing all black clothing, remains at large. The last sighting of the suspect was westbound on 87th Street.
