Maryland and Virginia Winter Weather Alert: Freezing Rain Impacting Roads Until Noon

Baltimore, MD – Freezing rain continues across parts of Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., Thursday morning, creating slick road conditions and hazardous travel. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for much of the region until noon EST for some areas and 10 a.m. EST for others.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), additional ice accumulations up to 0.05 inches are expected in parts of central, north-central, and northern Maryland, as well as northern and northwest Virginia. Bridges and overpasses are particularly at risk for developing slick surfaces.

In Washington, D.C., Prince George’s County, Fairfax County, and nearby areas,ice accumulation will be lighter, but hazardous conditions could still impact the Thursday morning commute. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution and allow extra travel time.

Meanwhile, areas in western and central Virginia, including Augusta, Rockingham, and Shenandoah counties, could see up to 0.1 inches of ice on higher elevations.

Residents should slow down, use caution, and be prepared for slippery sidewalks, driveways, and steps. The latest road conditions can be checked by calling 511.
