Federalsburg, MD – A 17-year-old from Federalsburg died in a two-vehicle crash late Sunday night in Caroline County, according to Maryland State Police.
The victim, identified as Trevor Whiteley, was a passenger in a 2010 Ford Fusion involved in the collision. Emergency medical services pronounced him dead at the scene.
Troopers from the Maryland State Police Easton Barrack responded to the crash just before midnight on Route 313, north of Chipmans Lane. Preliminary findings indicate the Ford, driven by 19-year-old Nathan D’Orlando of Denton, rear-ended a dump truck contracted for snow removal operations. The dump truck, driven by 24-year-old William Andrew of Cordova, was stopped partially on the shoulder and in the roadway, police said.
D’Orlando was airlifted to Shock Trauma by Maryland State Police Aviation Command for treatment. Andrew declined medical transport.
The Maryland State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division is inspecting the dump truck, while investigators are looking into whether alcohol was a factor in the crash. The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration assisted with road closures following the incident.
The Maryland State Police Crash Team continues to investigate the cause of the collision.
