Baltimore, MD – A winter storm is bringing heavy snow to portions of Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia, with accumulation totals expected between 3 and 6 inches through Sunday evening.

According to the National Weather Service, the storm will continue until 7 p.m. EST. Areas including Extreme Western Allegany County, the Shenandoah region of Virginia, and parts of eastern West Virginia will experience snowfall rates approaching 1 inch per hour this afternoon. Temperatures are expected to drop into the teens tonight, creating the potential for icy road conditions as lingering moisture freezes.

Authorities are urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel. Bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads are likely to become slick and hazardous. Motorists who must drive are advised to carry emergency supplies and prepare for sudden visibility changes.

The storm is forecast to taper off by evening, but the impact on travel could extend into Monday morning. Drivers are reminded to call 511 for real-time road condition updates and to ensure vehicles are properly winterized before traveling.
