Boston, MA – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for Massachusetts, northern Connecticut, and Rhode Island until 7 p.m. Thursday, with snow, sleet, and ice expected to impact travel across the region.
According to the National Weather Service, snowfall totals will range from 1 to 4 inches, with a light glaze of ice possible. The advisory covers most of Massachusetts, excluding Cape Cod and the islands, as well as all of Rhode Island except Block Island. Northern Connecticut, including Hartford, Tolland, and Windham counties, is also affected.
Slippery road conditions are expected throughout the day, especially during the morning and evening commutes. Transportation officials urge drivers to slow down and exercise caution on highways and local roads.
This winter system will bring mixed precipitation, making for treacherous conditions across Boston, Worcester, Providence, and Hartford. The combination of snow, sleet, and ice could lead to minor power outages and delays at regional airports.
Residents should allow extra travel time and stay updated on road conditions. Those heading out should dress warmly and prepare for changing conditions. The latest updates can be found at weather.gov/box.
