Concord, NH – A Massachusetts man was arrested early Thursday after allegedly assaulting two New Hampshire State Police Troopers on Interstate 93 in Concord.

According to New Hampshire State Police, dispatchers received reports around 12:30 a.m. of a possibly disabled vehicle stopped without lights on the left side of I-93 northbound. Trooper Peter Kosakowski responded and approached the stalled 2011 Honda Civic, where he encountered the driver, later identified as Mugil Malai, 28, of Westford, Massachusetts.

Authorities said Malai initially shut and locked his door before unsuccessfully attempting to start the vehicle. He then exited and allegedly charged at Trooper Kosakowski, striking him in the head. Trooper Morgan Butcher, who arrived to assist, was also struck before both troopers were able to subdue Malai and take him into custody.

Malai was transported to the Merrimack County Jail, where he is being held on preventative detention. He faces charges of assault on a police officer and resisting arrest and is scheduled for arraignment in Concord District Court.

Both troopers were treated for minor injuries at Concord Hospital and later released.
