Massachusetts Weather Alert: Winter Storm to Bring Up to 10 Inches of Snow Overnight

Boston, MA – A winter storm is set to impact much of southern New England starting this evening and continuing through Sunday morning, bringing 5 to 9 inches of snow across the region. Higher snowfall totals of 8 to 10 inches are expected along the northern Massachusetts border, with Cape Cod and the islands forecast to receive 4 to 6 inches.
According to the National Weather Service Boston, snow will begin lightly but quickly intensify, reaching moderate to heavy rates of up to 1 inch per hour. Snowfall will move west to east, with onset times between 7 and 9 p.m. for western Massachusetts and Connecticut, 8 to 10 p.m. for central Massachusetts and Rhode Island, and 9 to 11 p.m. for coastal eastern Massachusetts.
Travel conditions are expected to deteriorate quickly as roads become snow-covered. The heaviest snowfall will occur overnight into early Sunday morning, with a chance of more than 0.5 inches per hour. Snow will begin to taper off between 7 a.m. and noon on Sunday, with some areas seeing a brief transition to freezing rain or light rain before the storm exits.
Drivers are urged to use caution and allow extra time for travel. Residents should prepare for hazardous road conditions and potential delays.
