Boston, MA – A powerful winter storm is poised to deliver heavy snow across Massachusetts tonight, with the heaviest accumulation expected between 6 p.m. and midnight. Major impacts are forecast for areas along and northwest of the I-95 corridor, creating hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), snowfall will intensify this evening, with rates of 1-2 inches per hour during peak hours. Total accumulations of 4-8 inches are expected in much of eastern Massachusetts, with localized totals reaching up to 10 inches in higher elevations. Coastal areas, including parts of Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts, may see lighter totals of 3-6 inches under a Winter Weather Advisory.
The Winter Storm Warning will remain in effect until 7 a.m. Monday. Drivers are urged to avoid travel overnight as untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses will be especially treacherous. For those who must venture out, keeping emergency supplies on hand is highly recommended.
Cold conditions will follow the storm, with Monday’s high temperatures reaching only the mid-20s. Wind chills are expected to drop near zero Monday night. The week ahead features mostly sunny skies Tuesday and Wednesday, but temperatures will stay well below freezing, prolonging icy conditions in some areas.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updates from local authorities and the NWS for the latest road and weather information.
