Metrolink temporarily halts service on 3 lines, affecting thousands of commuters

Roughly 7,000 people who rely on Metrolink trains to commute to and from Los Angeles have been without service since Monday, officials announced.

“On Monday, Jan. 27, and Tuesday, Jan. 28, all Riverside Line, 91/Perris Valley Line, and Orange County Line service will be canceled due to fallen powerlines blocking the tracks,” Metrolink stated in its website’s Alerts Detail Page.

Los Angeles Department of Water and Power crews have been working to clear the lines but have been “unable to release the tracks at this time,” according to Metrolink.

A rider from one of the three affected Metrolink lines shared a letter from the transportation company with KTLA.

“The track closure is also impacting Amtrak Pacific Surfliner service and affecting Union Pacific freight movement,” a portion of the letter reads.

Metrolink also stated that no alternative transportation will be provided due to a lack of buses available to transport the thousands of customer boardings.
