Marquette, MI – Residents are urged to prepare for slippery roads as heavy snow continues into Tuesday. Snowfall totals could reach 5 inches by noon.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the Winter Weather Advisory for Marquette County remains in effect until Tuesday at 12 p.m. Hazardous travel conditions are expected to persist during Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes. The north-central portions of the county, including areas near Marquette and Gwinn, will likely see the heaviest accumulations.

Officials warn drivers to slow down and use extra caution, especially during peak commute hours. Reduced visibility and snow-packed roads are likely throughout the region. “Plan on slippery road conditions,” the NWS stated.

Local authorities remind residents to check road conditions before traveling and to allow extra time for commutes. Snow plows are actively clearing primary roads, but secondary roads may remain snow-covered and hazardous overnight.

The NWS also cautions residents to avoid unnecessary travel. Light to moderate snow showers will continue overnight, gradually tapering off by late Tuesday morning.

Temperatures are expected to remain in the low 20s, creating ideal conditions for snow to accumulate. Winds, although light in Marquette County, could contribute to patchy blowing snow, further reducing visibility.

Drivers are encouraged to keep emergency kits in their vehicles and avoid distracted driving.
