Michigan Weather Alert: Strong Winds Expected Across State Until Early Friday

Grand Rapids, MI – A Wind Advisory is in effect for much of Michigan, with strong west winds expected to impact the region from Thursday afternoon through early Friday morning.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Grand Rapids, winds will range from 20 to 30 mph, with gusts reaching up to 55 mph in some areas, particularly in Allegan, Ottawa, Mason, Muskegon, and Oceana counties. The advisory remains in effect from 2 p.m. Thursday until 1 a.m. Friday.

Additional counties across central, southwest, and west-central Michigan, including Kent, Ionia, Barry, and Montcalm, will also experience gusts up to 50 mph. The NWS Gaylord warns that northern Michigan, including Traverse City, Charlevoix, and Alpena, will see similar conditions, with blowing snow adding to hazardous travel.

The NWS Detroit/Pontiac has issued an advisory for Bay, Midland, Saginaw, and Huron counties, where winds may exceed 50 mph along Saginaw Bay and Lake Huron. This advisory remains in effect until 10 p.m. Thursday.
