Mid-Atlantic Region – The Mid-Atlantic region saw light snowfall on Thursday, with temperatures expected to rise above freezing Friday and Saturday. The warming trend is likely to accelerate snowmelt across the area, prompting officials to monitor river and stream levels.

According to the US National Weather Service Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center (MARFC), the combination of snowmelt and rainfall could result in water level increases in certain regions. However, no flooding is currently anticipated at MARFC forecast points.

The snowfall has created picturesque winter scenes but has also led to potentially slippery road conditions. As warmer weather moves in, melting snow and ice will increase runoff into rivers and streams. Residents are urged to stay alert for rising water levels in localized areas, particularly in low-lying regions or near waterways.

Although flooding is not expected, sudden shifts in weather patterns could cause minor disruptions. Drivers should remain cautious of melting snow that may refreeze overnight in shaded or colder areas.

The warmer weekend provides a brief respite from harsher winter conditions, but officials encourage monitoring weather updates to stay prepared for any changes. For real-time updates, visit the MARFC website or follow NWS communications.
