Minibike rider killed in collision with hit-and-run driver

A person on a minibike was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in South Los Angeles early Sunday morning.  

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers responded to the area of West Century Boulevard and San Pedro Street around 2 a.m. on reports of a collision between a vehicle and a minibike.  

The impact of the crash caused the minibike to be completely wedged underneath the front end of the black hatchback that struck it, video from the scene shows. The hatchback itself also sustained visible damage.

Initial reports of the victim being a 16-year-old boy were not able to be confirmed by police.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash fled in an unknown direction, and as of 7:30 a.m. Sunday, they remain outstanding.  

No further details were immediately released.
