Grand Forks, ND – A powerful blizzard is sweeping through Kittson County, Minnesota, and parts of North Dakota, bringing dangerous conditions. The storm is expected to drop up to 8 inches of snow by Friday evening.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the blizzard warning is in effect until 9 p.m. Friday, impacting Kittson County in Minnesota and Cavalier, Pembina, and Towner Counties in North Dakota. Winds are gusting as high as 60 mph, reducing visibility to less than a quarter mile.

Heavy snowfall and blowing snow have created whiteout conditions, making travel extremely hazardous. The NWS advises motorists to delay all travel unless absolutely necessary. Those who must travel should use extreme caution and ensure their vehicles are prepared for winter emergencies.

The blizzard began early Friday morning and has already caused significant disruptions across the region. Schools and businesses in affected areas have announced closures, and road crews are struggling to keep highways clear. Authorities warn that snow drifts could block rural roads, isolating some communities until the storm subsides.

Residents are urged to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel. Power outages are possible due to high winds, so households should prepare emergency supplies, including flashlights, batteries, and non-perishable food.

The storm is expected to taper off by late Friday night, but cold temperatures and lingering gusts could extend hazardous conditions into Saturday morning.
