Dangerously cold temperatures and wind chills as low as -40°F are gripping Minnesota. The National Weather Service warns that these conditions could cause frostbite on exposed skin within 10 minutes. The advisory, covering portions of central, south-central, and west-central Minnesota, is expected to last until noon Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service, areas including Minneapolis, St. Paul, and surrounding counties are experiencing wind chill values between -25°F and -40°F. Residents are urged to limit outdoor exposure, dress in layers, and wear insulated gloves and face coverings. Portable heaters must be used cautiously to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.

Roads across the region, including I-94 and US-52, remain open but icy conditions persist due to frigid air. Drivers should exercise caution, especially during early morning and evening hours when wind chill is most severe.

Temperatures are expected to rise slightly on Tuesday, with a high near 7°F, though wind chills will still hover near -30°F. By Wednesday, a high of 25°F offers some relief, though cold overnight lows in the single digits will continue through the week.

Preparedness is essential. Keep pets indoors, check on elderly neighbors, and stock emergency supplies in case of prolonged exposure or power outages. For updated forecasts and safety tips, visit the National Weather Service website.
