Jackson, MS – Mississippi residents should prepare for accumulating snow and dangerously cold temperatures starting late Monday night into Tuesday. Snowfall is increasingly likely south of Interstate 20, with icy roads creating hazardous driving conditions.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson, snow accumulation could begin before dawn Tuesday, continuing through much of the day. Northern areas near Grenada and Tupelo may see higher totals, while regions farther south, including Brookhaven and Laurel, could experience lighter snowfall. The NWS warns of snow-covered roads and falling branches, potentially leading to power outages.
Sunday night will usher in dangerously low temperatures, with wind chills plummeting to single digits. Frostbite and hypothermia are possible with prolonged exposure. By Monday night, temperatures will hover near 23 degrees, and winds will shift to 5–10 mph from the northeast.
Tuesday’s high will reach just 35 degrees, with snow showers possible through the afternoon. Tuesday night temperatures could drop as low as 17 degrees, leading to slick roads and icy bridges. Drivers are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and bundle up when venturing outside.
Looking ahead, sunny skies are expected to return Wednesday, with highs in the low 40s. However, overnight lows will remain near freezing through Friday.
