Missouri Weather Alert: Sub-Zero Wind Chills Expected in Kansas City This Weekend

Kansas City, MO – Residents in Kansas City are being warned to brace for the coldest weather of the season this weekend as temperatures plunge dramatically. An Arctic front will sweep through the region beginning Saturday, bringing sub-zero wind chills and single-digit temperatures.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, the cold air is expected to arrive Saturday night, with wind chill values dropping into the single digits by Sunday morning. The coldest period will be Sunday through Tuesday, when wind chills could bottom out at 10 to 20 below zero during the mornings and struggle to reach double digits during the day.

Officials urge residents to limit outdoor activities during this time and dress in layers to avoid frostbite. Motorists traveling on major roadways, including Interstate 70 and U.S. Route 71, should prepare for icy conditions and carry emergency kits in case of delays.

The weekend forecast includes a high of 23 degrees Saturday with mostly sunny skies, but temperatures will plummet overnight to zero by Sunday morning. Sunday’s high will be a frigid 14 degrees, and Monday is expected to stay cold with a low of -1 and a high of 14. Temperatures will gradually rise by midweek, reaching the 30s by Wednesday.

Residents should check on elderly neighbors and ensure pets have proper shelter. Local warming centers are expected to open; details can be found on city websites.
