Kansas City, MO – A major winter storm is set to bring heavy snowfall across parts of Missouri and Kansas, with accumulations of 5 to 10 inches expected from late Tuesday night through Wednesday evening. The storm is expected to impact travel conditions and both the morning and evening commutes on Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City/Pleasant Hill, the Winter Storm Warning will be in effect from midnight Tuesday night to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Some areas may see even higher snowfall totals, making road conditions dangerous across eastern Kansas and central to northern Missouri.
Cities affected include Kansas City, St. Joseph, Liberty, Independence, Leavenworth, Olathe, and Kirksville. Officials warn that snow-covered roads and reduced visibility will make travel hazardous, advising residents to delay travel if possible.
Drivers who must travel are urged to carry emergency supplies, including a flashlight, food, and water. In Kansas, updated road conditions can be found by dialing 511, while Missouri residents can check traveler.modot.org for the latest updates.
Authorities recommend monitoring local forecasts as the storm approaches, as conditions could change rapidly.
