Montana Winter Storm Warning: Heavy Snow and 65 MPH Winds Expected Through Monday

Great Falls, MT – A significant winter storm is set to impact Montana beginning Friday, bringing heavy snowfall, strong winds, and hazardous travel conditions through Monday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Great Falls, a Winter Storm Watch has been issued for Northwest Beaverhead County and the Rocky Mountain Front, with up to 18 inches of snow possible at higher elevations. Winds could reach 45 mph in Beaverhead County and up to 65 mph along the Rocky Mountain Front, causing dangerous whiteout conditions.

The storm will bring 8 to 16 inches of snow at and below pass levels, including Marias Pass, Logan Pass, and Rogers Pass, with additional accumulations expected above 7,000 feet. Short breaks in snowfall may occur, but hazardous conditions will persist throughout the weekend.

Travel Impacts:

•   Roads may become impassable due to blowing and drifting snow.
•   Visibility could be near zero in some areas, especially in open terrain.
•   Backcountry travelers should prepare for extreme conditions.
