Antioch, TN – Authorities are continuing to investigate a murder – suicide that occurred Wednesday morning in the cafeteria of Antioch High School, where a 17-year-old gunman opened fire. Police said Solomon Henderson fired ten shots within 17 seconds using a nine-millimeter pistol before taking his own life.
According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, Henderson’s weapon was recovered loaded with nine rounds, with an additional pistol magazine containing seven rounds found at the scene. No firearms or ammunition were located during a search of Henderson’s Carefree Lane residence later that day.
Police said Henderson was driven to school by his mother Wednesday morning, not arriving by bus as initially believed. Before entering the cafeteria, investigators determined he spent time in a restroom and posted to social media.
Detectives have also recovered documents created by Henderson on non-traditional websites, including a 51-page document and another totaling 288 pages. The material is under review by local authorities and the FBI, who noted that Henderson was influenced by objectionable online content.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is working to trace the origin of the firearm, which police believe Henderson purchased illegally in Arizona in 2022.
Counselors are being made available to students and staff, and Chief John Drake extended condolences to the Antioch High community. MNPD is continuing discussions with school officials to enhance safety measures before classes resume next week.
