Hastings, NE – Strong winds and dry conditions are creating near-critical fire weather across south-central Nebraska today. With gusts up to 25 mph and humidity levels dropping as low as 20%, fire danger is a growing concern.

According to the National Weather Service, the dry and breezy weather will persist through Wednesday before a pattern shift brings a 40-50% chance of rain Thursday night. Highs will remain in the upper 40s and low 50s through midweek before cooling into the 40s by Friday.

Tonight, temperatures will drop to the mid-20s under mostly clear skies. Wednesday will see highs in the low 50s with increasing clouds late. A slight chance of rain develops overnight into Thursday.

Residents should avoid outdoor burning and secure loose objects due to strong winds. By Friday, rain chances diminish, and cooler temperatures return with a high of 47°F. The weekend will bring drier weather, with highs rebounding into the mid-50s.
