Omaha, NE – A powerful arctic blast is set to grip Nebraska starting Saturday, with temperatures plunging into the single digits and wind chills as low as -25 degrees. Travelers along the I-80 corridor are advised to prepare for hazardous conditions and potential delays.

According to the National Weather Service, a cold front will bring strong northerly winds up to 40 mph starting Friday afternoon, causing rapidly falling temperatures. By Saturday, highs will struggle to reach 20 degrees, and overnight lows will drop below zero. The wind chill will make it feel as cold as -25, particularly Sunday and Monday mornings.

Residents are urged to limit outdoor exposure, dress in layers, and ensure vehicles are winter-ready before traveling. Officials recommend keeping an emergency kit in vehicles, especially for those planning trips on rural highways.

This deep freeze will persist through Tuesday, with daytime highs only reaching the teens and subzero lows continuing. Monday, in particular, will see the coldest temperatures of the stretch, with a high near 10 degrees in Omaha.

Looking ahead, a gradual warm-up is expected midweek, with highs in the 30s by Wednesday. Until then, residents should monitor weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel during the coldest periods.
