Nevada Winter Weather Alert: Up to 20 Inches of Snow Expected in Elko County Until Monday

Elko, NV – Northern Nevada is under a Winter Weather Advisory as a strong winter storm moves through the region, bringing heavy snowfall and strong winds through early Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Elko, snowfall will begin Friday afternoon, with accumulations between 2 to 8 inches in midslope areas and up to 15 inches on higher peaks in Humboldt County. In Northern Elko County, snow totals could reach 3 to 12 inches in midslopes and up to 20 inches on the highest elevations. Winds are expected to gust up to 40 mph, creating potentially hazardous travel conditions.

The advisory remains in effect from 4 p.m. Friday until 4 a.m. Monday, impacting areas above 5,500 feet in Humboldt County and 6,500 feet in Northern Elko County. Travelers are advised to use caution on roads, as slick and snow-covered surfaces could make driving difficult, especially during the Friday evening commute.
