Buffalo, NY – Heavy lake effect snow continues to blanket western New York, creating hazardous travel conditions and significant snow accumulation through Thursday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, snow will persist across Wyoming, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Southern Erie Counties until 4 a.m. Thursday. These areas are forecasted to receive 6 to 12 inches of snow, with the highest totals expected in the Boston Hills, western Wyoming County, and the Chautauqua Ridge. In Oswego County, snowfall is projected to reach 4 to 9 inches by 1 p.m. Wednesday.
Travel will remain difficult in the affected regions due to low visibility and snow-covered roads. Commuters are urged to plan ahead and avoid unnecessary travel during peak snowfall periods. Lake effect snow often produces unpredictable conditions, with heavy snowfall and clear skies occurring just miles apart. Drivers should prepare for sudden visibility changes and slick road surfaces.
The current storm is expected to create challenges for the Tuesday evening commute. Road crews are actively working to manage snow accumulation, but motorists are advised to exercise caution and allow extra time for travel.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed by monitoring updates from the National Weather Service and local emergency services. Prepare for delays and have emergency kits ready in vehicles. Conditions are expected to improve after the snow warning expires on Thursday morning.
