Binghamton, NY – Heavy snow squalls are creating dangerous travel conditions along the NYS Thruway this morning, reducing visibility and causing slick roads. Drivers are urged to slow down, use headlights, and avoid unnecessary travel as whiteout conditions persist.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, the squall line moved through Syracuse early Tuesday morning and continues southeast. The system will weaken by midday, but additional snow showers are expected through Wednesday, with gusty winds and freezing temperatures.

Wednesday’s forecast calls for more snow showers, high winds up to 31 mph, and temperatures peaking at 36°F. By Thursday, conditions will improve slightly with mostly sunny skies, but another round of freezing rain is possible overnight.

Motorists should monitor road conditions, especially along I-81 and I-88, as visibility may drop suddenly. If caught in a squall, exit the highway safely and wait for conditions to improve.
