Buffalo, NY – A high wind watch and snow showers are expected to impact Buffalo and surrounding areas Monday, prompting travel advisories. Strong winds, reaching up to 60 mph, and lake-enhanced snow may disrupt commutes and cause localized power outages.
According to the National Weather Service, southwest winds of 30 to 40 mph, with gusts as high as 60 mph, will sweep through Erie, Niagara, and Orleans counties Monday morning. These conditions will peak late Monday night, creating hazards for high-profile vehicles and potential downed trees and power lines.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor objects and stay updated on power outage advisories. The strongest winds are expected near the Niagara Frontier, increasing the risk of travel difficulties along major routes like Interstate 90 and Route 33.
Sunday will bring calmer conditions with a high of 28°F and partly cloudy skies. However, lake-enhanced snow showers could return late Sunday night into Monday, potentially adding to road challenges. Snow accumulations are predicted to remain light to moderate east of Lake Erie, but slippery conditions may occur.
Looking ahead, temperatures will remain chilly next week, with highs reaching the low 30s by midweek. Snow showers are expected through Wednesday, keeping roads slick and visibility reduced.
Travelers and residents should monitor updates from local authorities and the National Weather Service. Those planning commutes Monday should prepare for delays and difficult driving conditions.
