Buffalo, NY / A lake effect snow warning has been issued for the Eastern Lake Ontario Region, including Oswego, Jefferson, and Lewis counties. The warning remains in effect from 10 p.m. Saturday through 6 a.m. Monday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), heavy lake effect snow is expected, with total accumulations of 9 to 18 inches. The Tug Hill Plateau is anticipated to receive the highest totals. Winds gusting up to 35 mph will contribute to blowing and drifting snow, further complicating travel.

Residents in Oswego, Watertown, and Lowville should prepare for hazardous road conditions and reduced visibility. Officials advise travelers to expect rapidly changing conditions and to exercise caution.

The heaviest snowfall is expected in narrow bands, typical of lake effect snow events. These bands can create highly localized, intense snowfall, significantly impacting specific areas while leaving others relatively unaffected.
