Oswego, NY –

Oswego County remains under a Lake Effect Snow Warning until 1 p.m. Wednesday, with significant snow expected to make travel hazardous.

The National Weather Service predicts an additional 6 to 12 inches of snow in areas with persistent lake effect snow bands. Interstate 81 and local roadways will experience very poor visibility and deep snow accumulation, making travel difficult to impossible at times.

Drivers are urged to delay travel if possible. Those who must travel should allow extra time, avoid sudden braking or acceleration, and exercise extreme caution, particularly on hills and during turns.

Officials recommend staying indoors until conditions improve. If venturing outside, residents should dress in layers, covering all exposed skin to prevent frostbite or hypothermia.

Lake effect snow is expected to diminish by early afternoon Wednesday, with conditions improving later in the day. For real-time updates on road conditions, dial 511 or visit New York’s transportation website.
