Buffalo, NY – A significant winter storm is set to blanket parts of New York with heavy snow, with totals reaching up to 17 inches in some areas. A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for regions including the Eastern Lake Ontario area and Oneida County, effective from 7 p.m. Tuesday through 1 a.m. Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the heaviest snowfall is expected in the Tug Hill Plateau and western Adirondack foothills, where accumulations will range from 8 to 17 inches. Wind gusts up to 35 mph are anticipated, causing blowing and drifting snow that will create hazardous travel conditions.

Oswego, Watertown, and Lowville are among the areas likely to be hardest hit. In Oneida County, including cities like Utica and Rome, snow totals could range from 7 to 13 inches. The storm is expected to disrupt both Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning commutes.

Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel, keep emergency supplies in vehicles, and monitor local road conditions via 511. Visibility may be severely limited during peak snowfall, particularly in open and rural areas.

The storm is part of a system sweeping through the Northeast, with localized snowfall expected to ease by Thursday morning. Updates will continue to be provided by the NWS.
