Albany, NY – A winter weather advisory is in effect Thursday for parts of eastern New York, with snow, sleet, and freezing rain expected to create hazardous travel conditions. The National Weather Service warns of up to 3 inches of snow and icy accumulations of a tenth of an inch in Albany, Schenectady, and Rensselaer counties.
According to the NWS, snow will begin early Thursday morning before changing to a wintry mix by the afternoon. Ice and slush could create slippery roads on I-87 and other major highways, impacting both morning and evening commutes.
Thursday night will be mostly cloudy, with lows around 28°F. Friday is expected to be partly sunny with highs near 31°F. However, another system arrives Saturday night, bringing a higher chance of accumulating snow through Sunday morning.
Drivers should use caution, reduce speed, and allow extra travel time. Pedestrians should also watch for icy sidewalks and steps. Stay updated with local forecasts and consider delaying non-essential travel.
