Binghamton, NY – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for central New York through 7 a.m. Sunday, with up to six inches of snow and icy conditions expected. Snowfall rates may reach one inch per hour, making travel hazardous, particularly on I-81 and surrounding highways.
According to the National Weather Service, mixed precipitation will begin Saturday evening, intensifying overnight. Accumulations of three to six inches are expected, with a light glaze of ice increasing the risk of slick roads. Winds from the northwest at 5-10 mph could further reduce visibility.
Sunday morning will bring lingering snow showers before tapering off by midday. Highs will reach 31°F with winds gusting up to 20 mph. Monday is expected to be partly sunny, while another system could bring additional snow showers by Tuesday night.
Drivers should exercise caution and check road conditions via 511 before heading out. Officials advise reducing speeds and maintaining a safe following distance due to icy patches. Stay updated with NOAA Weather Radio or weather.gov for the latest alerts.
