New York Winter Weather Alert: Heavy Lake-Effect Snow Expected Through Tuesday

Winter weather continues to impact Upstate New York, with multiple counties under advisories and warnings through early next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, a Winter Weather Advisoryremains in effect until 1 p.m. Sunday for Wayne, Jefferson, Lewis, and Ontario counties, with additional snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches. A Lake Effect Snow Warning has also been issued for Oswego and northern Cayuga counties from 4 p.m. Sunday through 4 a.m. Tuesday, where total snow accumulations could reach 8 to 16 inchesin the heaviest bands.
In Wayne County, lake-effect snow is expected to intensify from Sunday evening through Monday, bringing an additional 4 to 8 inches in the most persistent snow bands. The hazardous conditions could create dangerous travel conditions for both the Monday morning and evening commutes.
Residents in Buffalo, Rochester, and surrounding areas should prepare for snow-covered and slippery roads, with visibility dropping significantly in localized snow bands. Drivers are advised to use caution and allow extra travel time.
The National Weather Service warns that lake-effect snow can cause rapid changes in weather and road conditions. Travelers should stay updated with local forecasts and avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas.
