Scranton, PA – A winter weather advisory remains in effect across northeastern Pennsylvania and parts of southern New York, with freezing rain creating slippery conditions on roads and sidewalks Friday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, freezing rain is expected to continue through 9 a.m. in Pennsylvania’s Bradford, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Susquehanna, Wyoming, Pike, and Wayne counties. New York’s Broome, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Otsego, Sullivan, Tioga, and Tompkins counties will see icy conditions persist until 1 p.m.
The wintry mix is causing hazardous travel conditions, particularly during the morning commute. Authorities warn of slippery roads, bridges, and sidewalks. Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution, as untreated surfaces may become coated with a light glaze of ice.
Pennsylvania’s Department of Transportation and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission advise motorists to check 511PA.com for real-time road conditions. New York travelers can call 511 for updated highway information.
Residents should prepare for possible power outages due to ice accumulation. Anyone heading out should take extra precautions and allow for additional travel time.
