Charlotte, NC – North Carolina will begin to thaw on Thursday as temperatures climb above freezing for the first time in days. Highs are expected to reach 37°F in Charlotte, bringing relief after the polar vortex brought dangerously low temperatures.
According to the National Weather Service, the warming trend starts Thursday under partly sunny skies, with daytime highs breaking the freezing mark. Thursday night will see temperatures drop to 21°F, but it marks a notable improvement from earlier in the week.
By Friday, Charlotte residents can expect even milder weather, with sunny skies and a high of 42°F. The warming trend continues into Saturday, with highs near 45°F. After enduring lows in the teens and wind chills nearing single digits, the shift in weather will be a welcome change.
Although icy patches remain possible tonight on major roads like I-85 and I-77, conditions should improve as temperatures rise. Residents should stay cautious overnight and during the early morning commute on Wednesday, as a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m.
After several days of sub-freezing weather, Charlotteans can look forward to sunshine and improving conditions heading into the weekend. It’s the perfect time to plan outdoor activities as North Carolina begins to exit the icy grip of the polar vortex.
