Raleigh, NC – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for central North Carolina until 1 p.m. Thursday, with light snow, sleet, and freezing rain expected to create hazardous road conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, areas across the Piedmont and Sandhills will see up to an inch of snow, with a light glaze of ice possible along the U.S. 64 corridor. The greatest travel impacts are expected through 7 p.m. Wednesday, with slippery roads continuing into Thursday morning.

The advisory affects several counties, including Forsyth, Guilford, Alamance, Orange, Durham, Davidson, Randolph, and Chatham, as well as areas in the southern Piedmont and Sandhills such as Stanly, Montgomery, Moore, Lee, Harnett, Anson, Richmond, Scotland, Hoke, and Cumberland counties. Cities such as Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Durham, Fayetteville, and Sanford should prepare for difficult travel conditions.

Residents should slow down and use caution while traveling, especially on bridges and overpasses, which may freeze first. North Carolina 511 can provide up-to-date road conditions.
