Cleveland, OH – Residents across northern Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania are bracing for dangerously cold temperatures as an Extreme Cold Warning takes effect tonight. A Cold Weather Advisory is currently in place and will remain active until 7 p.m., followed by the Extreme Cold Warning, which lasts until 10 a.m. Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), wind chill values could plummet to as low as 27 degrees below zero, posing significant risks for frostbite and hypothermia. Areas affected include cities such as Cleveland, Toledo, Akron, and Erie, Pennsylvania.
The NWS warns that frostbite can develop on exposed skin within 30 minutes under these conditions. Residents are urged to dress in layers, wear hats and gloves, and limit outdoor exposure. Homes should be winterized to prevent pipes from freezing, and pets should be brought indoors.
Travelers are advised to exercise caution, as prolonged exposure could result in severe cold-related illnesses. Residents should also check on vulnerable individuals and ensure proper use of space heaters to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning.
Temperatures are expected to rise slightly after Wednesday morning, but conditions will remain frigid throughout the week. For updates, visit the National Weather Service website or local emergency alerts.
