Fort Wayne, IN – Warmer temperatures are expected Monday across Indiana, bringing some relief from recent bitter cold. However, ice jam risks on local rivers remain a significant concern as the week progresses.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), Monday will feature sunny skies and highs near 36 degrees in Fort Wayne. Overnight lows will drop to 28, with gusty winds up to 30 mph. While the warmer weather will ease icy conditions on roads, NWS has issued a hydrologic outlook warning of potential river flooding caused by melting ice and jam formations. Residents near rivers and tributaries should stay alert to rising water levels throughout the week.
The extended forecast shows highs reaching the upper 30s through Thursday, with increasing chances of rain late in the week. While Monday and Tuesday will see mostly clear skies, clouds and precipitation may develop by Thursday night, potentially impacting commutes on major roads like I-69.
Locals are advised to monitor updates from NWS and prepare for potential flooding if conditions worsen. Ice spotters are encouraged to report ice jams to authorities to prevent sudden flooding.
