Northern Michigan Winter Advisory: Up to 6 Inches of Snow by Sunday Morning

Gaylord, MI – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for northern Michigan, warning of snow accumulations and strong winds through 7 a.m. Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service, up to 3 inches of snow is expected in Antrim, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Emmet, and Otsego counties. Meanwhile, Central and Western Chippewa counties could see higher totals, with snowfall reaching between 3 and 6 inches. Winds are forecasted to gust as high as 35 mph, creating hazardous travel conditions, particularly late Saturday afternoon and evening.

The combination of heavy snow showers and strong winds could lead to rapid drops in visibility and brief whiteout conditions. Roadways may become slippery, especially under heavier snow bands that can deposit snow quickly.

Motorists are advised to reduce speed and exercise caution while traveling. Localized impacts from lake effect snow could cause unpredictable weather changes over short distances.

This advisory highlights the importance of preparedness for rapidly shifting conditions, particularly for evening and overnight travelers.
