Reno, NV – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for the Greater Lake Tahoe Area, Mono County, and the Reno-Carson City region until 4 p.m. Sunday. Residents are urged to prepare for snow, freezing temperatures, and strong winds.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), snow accumulations of 1 to 5 inches are expected in lower elevations, with up to 10 inches above 7,000 feet in the Carson Range and Alpine County. Wind gusts could reach 35 mph, with ridge winds peaking at 50 mph. In Mono County, snowfall may total 6 to 12 inches above 7,000 feet, while wind chills in backcountry areas could plunge to 15 below zero.

Travel could become hazardous, particularly on Highways 395 and 95, as well as roads leading to Stateline, South Lake Tahoe, and Mammoth Lakes. Snow bands could create localized increases in snowfall, further complicating conditions.

Drivers are advised to slow down and use caution. For real-time road conditions, call 511. Those venturing into backcountry areas should take precautions against severe wind chills.

The advisory also highlights a chance of higher or lower snowfall depending on where snow bands develop. Prepare for slippery roads and delays as winter weather continues to impact the region.
