Northern Vermont, NY – Residents in northern Vermont and New York should prepare for hazardous travel conditions as snow blankets the region Tuesday evening. The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory starting at 4 p.m. Tuesday and continuing until 4 p.m. Wednesday.

According to the advisory, total snow accumulations are expected to range from 2 to 6 inches. Higher elevations will see the heaviest snowfall, while valleys may receive lighter totals. Areas affected include Southeastern St. Lawrence, Southern Franklin, and Western Clinton counties in New York, as well as Orleans, Lamoille, and Eastern Franklin counties in Vermont.

Snowfall is predicted to begin late Tuesday afternoon, with the heaviest snowfall expected overnight into Wednesday morning. Travel conditions are expected to worsen, particularly during the Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning commutes. Drivers are urged to reduce speed and exercise caution on snow-covered roads.

The National Weather Service emphasized that the elevation-dependent nature of the snow could create variable road conditions within short distances. Those planning to travel should monitor local road updates. Vermont travelers can check https://newengland511.org, while New York road conditions are available at https://511ny.org.

The advisory highlights the importance of preparedness. Residents are encouraged to ensure vehicles are equipped with winter safety kits, including blankets, water, and flashlights.
