Gaylord, MI – Lake effect snow will bring additional accumulations of up to two inches in Otsego and Charlevoix counties by late morning, prompting a Winter Weather Advisory. Roadways remain snow-covered and slippery, creating hazardous travel conditions for the Tuesday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service, light snow continues throughout the day with wind gusts of up to 25 mph in open areas. Northwest Michigan residents should expect additional lake effect snow through Wednesday morning, with the heaviest totals—3 to 7 inches—expected in Antrim and Kalkaska counties. Reduced visibility, patchy blowing snow, and icy conditions will pose risks for drivers, particularly on local roads and highways.

The advisory is in effect until 11 a.m. Tuesday. Those traveling on US-131 and M-32 are urged to slow down and allow extra time for their trips. Officials recommend keeping an emergency kit in vehicles, including blankets and flashlights, as wind chills remain dangerously low at 5 to 15 below zero.

Looking ahead, Wednesday will bring continued snow showers and a high of 21°F, with additional accumulation of up to an inch. Temperatures will rise slightly toward the weekend, reaching the mid-30s by Friday, but snow showers are likely to persist.
