Porter County, IN – Northwestern Indiana will experience a wintry mix transitioning to snow early Saturday morning. The National Weather Service forecasts light snow accumulations southeast of I-55, depending on how quickly temperatures drop.

According to the National Weather Service, the precipitation will begin Friday night as rain before changing to snow overnight. Blustery conditions will persist, with temperatures ranging from 20 to 29 degrees on Saturday. Lake effect snow is possible, especially in Porter County, where local accumulations could impact travel.

Saturday night, the region will face intensifying Arctic air, dropping temperatures even further. Wind chills could reach dangerous lows of -15 to -25 degrees, especially Sunday night into Monday. Officials advise residents to limit outdoor exposure to avoid frostbite and hypothermia.

Road conditions may become hazardous, particularly in areas affected by snow accumulations. Blowing snow could reduce visibility and create slick surfaces. Authorities recommend monitoring local updates and exercising caution while traveling.

By Sunday, temperatures will plummet, with highs struggling to reach 12 degrees and wind chills making it feel far colder. This pattern will continue into early next week, with Monday night expected to bring the coldest conditions.

The National Weather Service urges Porter County residents to prepare for the extreme cold by winterizing vehicles and homes. Keep extra layers, blankets, and emergency supplies on hand in case of power outages.
