Cleveland, OH – A winter weather system is set to bring snow, freezing rain, and heavy winds across northern Ohio this weekend, with potential flooding risks from snowmelt and rainfall.

According to the National Weather Service Cleveland, snow showers and freezing rain early Saturday will switch to widespread rain by the afternoon. Rain will continue into the night before transitioning back to snow on Sunday, bringing several inches of accumulation by Sunday night.

Strong wind gusts expected Sunday may cause blowing and drifting snow, making travel hazardous. Additionally, rainfall combined with snowmelt could lead to isolated rises in area rivers, raising flood concerns.

Residents should prepare for rapidly changing road conditions, possible flooding near rivers, and reduced visibility from blowing snow. The NWS advises limiting travel when conditions worsen and securing outdoor items ahead of strong winds. A prolonged cold stretch is expected to begin Sunday night, adding to the region’s weather challenges.
