Oregon Air Stagnation Advisory in Effect Through Monday: What Residents Need to Know

Pendleton, OR – Eastern Oregon residents are under an air stagnation advisory until Monday at 4 p.m., with poor air quality persisting due to an inversion trapping pollutants near the surface. Those with respiratory conditions are urged to limit outdoor activities and take precautions indoors.
According to the National Weather Service, freezing fog will affect the Pendleton area Sunday morning, with temperatures dropping as low as 16°F overnight. Hazy conditions will linger throughout the weekend, accompanied by calm winds and highs near 34°F. The advisory covers portions of central and northeast Oregon, extending into southeast Washington.
Residents should check with local burn agencies for restrictions and avoid outdoor burning, which could worsen pollution levels. Prolonged exposure to stagnant air poses risks, particularly for vulnerable groups.
The five-day outlook indicates continued sunny and cold conditions. Monday will bring highs near 37°F, followed by clear skies and lows of 20°F at night. Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to remain sunny with highs of 38–41°F, offering slight improvement in visibility but little change in air quality.
Drivers are urged to exercise caution during the morning hours, as freezing fog could reduce visibility and create slick conditions on roads, especially Highway 11 and nearby rural routes.
Stay informed on the latest updates by monitoring local forecasts and preparing for extended periods of poor air quality. Reduce outdoor activities and take measures to stay safe.
